Norfolk’s Mitsubishi dealership, for new and used sales and servicing, is now at the former Mile Cross Lane Vauxhall site, a prime ring road location
Managing director Ian Coates said: “This move will really help put Mitsubishi on the map in Norwich.”
And so will the Eclipse Cross.
Emily Coates-Martin, Mitsubishi sales manager at Constitution Motors, said: “The Eclipse Cross marks a new era for Mitsubishi as the first of its new generation of vehicles and has been designed to compete with the best, family-friendly SUVs on the market.”
Emily and sister Alice, who is senior service adviser, are also the next generation of the Coates family, joining parents Ian and Sue, who have owned the business 15 years.
“It is going to be a game-changer for Mitsubishi, bringing in a new, younger and completely different audience to the brand,” explained Emily.
It brings Mitsubishi into the mid-size SUV class for the first time, making an impression with its expressive, bold design, twin bubble roof for better headroom and aerodynamics, cockpit-like interior, sharp driving dynamics and advanced technologies.
Boasting a distinctive, sporty SUV coupé exterior with eye-catching LED front and rear lights, it is aimed at millennials and young and growing families - more than half of customers are expected to be 35 to 44 – seeking a more spacious car big on safety, technology and value as protecting loved ones is a key selling point, putting it up there with the best family SUVs.
The high standard specification includes lane departure warning and forward collision mitigation, which uses radar technology to detect a risk of collision. Driver aids and safety technology have contributed to a maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating for safety – and one of the highest overall scores in its class – achieving a near-perfect 97pc for adult protection and 80pc for pedestrian safety, a leading score in the class.
Affordable pricing - from £21,275 on the road with the range-topping 4 version starting at £24,975 - and highly-competitive finance packages will also appeal. It is being launched with a £750 PCP deposit contribution and a competitive 5.9pc APR and 0pc hire purchase over three years.
Business contract hire is from £199 a month with 12 months annual rental. Residual values are forecast to be significantly higher than previous Mitsubishis.
With motorists shunning diesel, the Eclipse Cross is launched with an all-new 163PS 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive while an all-new CVT automatic transmission, with eight-speed sport mode and steering wheel paddles, is also offered with four-wheel drive. Both are capable of more than 40mpg combined with CO2 emissions 151 to 159g/km.
A 2.2-litre turbo diesel, with eight-speed automatic transmission, will arrive later.
Suspension and steering have been calibrated for a more engaging driving experience, limiting body roll and reducing noise, vibration and harshness. Four-wheel drive models feature Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC), with auto, snow and gravel modes, to divert power from front to rear wheels, improving traction, handling and stability.
The interior takes the quality feel to a higher level with a new dashboard putting information functions high up, operation functions lower down while a tall centre console creates cockpit-like environment.
Family SUVs needs to be roomy and practical so luggage space and rear legroom can be varied with a 60/40 split seat that slides 200mm, reclining backs, wide-opening back doors to aid access and putting children in child seats and useful cabin storage.
Constitution Motors is planning a double celebration in early February to officially open the new dealership and launch the Eclipse Cross.
